Dan Murray-Serter welcomes Dr James Doty – a leading neurosurgeon at Stanford University, Founder of the Centre of Compassion, bestselling-author, and philanthropist to the latest Working In with Heights podcast.
In this episode, James shares his insight from studying the science behind compassion, and manifestation. He shares the responses our brains activate when we care for others.
“When we care and nurture for others, we are rewarded,” he explains, “The parts of our brain that are associated with reward, and pleasure actually increase their metabolised metabolism when we do good acts for others.”
He talks about how we determine the emotional state of others, including their facial expressions, body language, and voice recognition, which allows us to recognise when someone else is suffering.
James also highlights the psychological response that takes place when we are unkind and how it can create all kinds of negative physiological effects.
He also identifies the power we all have as humans to manifest by altering our mindset and explains how if we think negatively, we give away the immense power we have within us to change ourselves.
Speaking about his personal experience of negative thinking in the past, he reveals how his life changed by realising that by breaking out of that way of thinking, you can see the light, and the power of connection, which changes everything.
Part one of this two-part episode of Working In is available now with part two released tomorrow (6 December) on Apple, Spotify and all major podcast platforms.
