A new podcast talks to people in and around videogames about ‘one cool thing’ not from games, but what fascinates them at the moment.
One Cool Thing is from Die Gute Fabrik, the award-winning indie games studio best known for Mutazione, Sportfriends and the recently announced Saltsea Chronicles.
One of the founding principles of Die Gute Fabrik is to collaborate with people from other art forms to bring fresh ideas to videogames, which is also at the heart of this new series.
Host of One Cool Thing is Die Gute Fabrik’s Creative Director Hannah Nicklin, who will introduce a guest from and around videogames each week, before getting into a deep dive into what their ‘one cool thing’ is, how it’s shaping their thoughts at the moment, and what they hope it could offer others.
Hannah says: “My whole career and practice has been shaped by interdisciplinary design principles – it was part of why Die Gute Fabrik was such a good home to me when I became the Creative Director in 2019.
“This podcast gives me a chance to acknowledge – with a wonderful line up of guests – that games are part of a wide heritage of creative works and practices.
“We’re influenced by all sorts, and all sorts of things help us make games (or be game makers). It’s been such a thrill to hear the huge variety of things people have ‘brought in’ to talk about; from specific works like Legally Blonde and Unquenchable Fire to general topics such as ‘mountains’ or ‘perfume’.
“I hope you enjoy listening to folks take this surprising angle on their work as game-makers as much as I have as host.”
