Season two of Why I Run, the podcast celebrating the extraordinary and the everyday stories of running, has launched.
The series comes in the lead up to the global charity event ‘Wings for Life World Run’ on 7 May.
Hosted by TikTok sensation, Erin Azar, along with broadcaster and world record-breaking swimmer, Ayo Akinwolere, the pair meet guests who share their passion for running and explain what drives them to put their shoes on and get out the front door.
Episode one explores the theme of ‘Running for Simplicity’. Australian yachtsman and double America’s Cup Champion Jimmy Spithill joins Erin and Ayo to talk about how running has become a simple pleasure for him.
Speaking to Ayo about the start of his running journey, Jimmy says: “I’d been living out of a suitcase when I was working with a team of young guys going from event to event all over Europe. Running was just the simplest thing to do.
“I had one pair of running shorts and my runners. It was the perfect amount of equipment when you’re travelling. Plus, running opened my eyes up to some beautiful scenery that I probably never would have found any other way.”
But not only his running journey is inspiring because it’s so simple and down to earth, Jimmy’s whole life and the way he deals with obstacles make the sailor stand out. He says what matters is how much work and commitment you’re willing to put into it.
Future guests in the series include triathlete Lucy Charles-Barclay, parkour runner Hazal Nehir, Marcus Brown (known as the Marathon Marcus) and many more.
