BBC Radio 3 recently broadcast a two-part programme, Jacob Collier’s Music Room, which is now available to hear on BBC Sounds.
In the two episodes, the Grammy-nominated songwriter and multi-instrumentalist presents music that has accompanied him during 2020 – a year he spent mostly in his North London family home.
His selections include pieces from all over the world, in all musical genres – from Benjamin Britten to Flying Lotus, Sam Amidon, Sir John Tavener, Erykah Badu, Hermeto Pascoal, and Jonathan Dove among others.
In his now famous music room, Collier also recorded three new performances exclusively for BBC Radio 3: his solo piano renditions of Norah Jones’ Nightingale and Burt Bacharach’s Alfie, alongside Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus featuring himself with his mother – violinist Suzie Collier – and two sisters Sophie and Ella.
Both episodes were recorded in Collier’s music studio in his family home, where a few years ago surrounded by a collection of instruments, he started uploading to the web the viral videos of his versions of classic pieces in music history across genres and decades.
The two episodes of Jacob Collier’s Music Room are now available on BBC Sounds.
