Series two of podcast for music lovers and aspiring musicians launches

The second season of Start Here, a podcast from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, is being launched.

Hosted by pianist, composer and producer Alexis Ffrench, the show explores different musical genres each week with special guests and well-known artists who share their love and recommendations on where to start your musical journey.

Conversations range from the beauty and emotions in traditional genres such as opera with award-winning tenor Freddie De Tommaso to the music behind video games like Pac-Man, Tetris and Super Mario Bros with composer Robin Beanland and breaking down the cultural phenomenon of UK garage with DJ, Flava D.

Speaking about his love for drill music, writer and columnist Ciaran Thapar says: “It’s hard to find another genre that speaks to the intensity of a certain urban and digital experience in the modern world.

“Drill has been born out of a time where we are extremely reliant as humans on the internet. Listening to it can help you understand the times we’re living in for better or worse.”

Other genres and guests in the new series include Jude Rogers on folk and Sweetpea on drum & bass. Previous episodes feature deep-dives into genres including grime, classical, afrobeats, K-Pop, bhangra and hip-hop.

Series two of Start Here launches today, Wednesday 26 February with new episodes releasing every week wherever you get your podcasts
