A Kids Co., the media company behind the bestselling A Kids Book About series, is expanding into parenting with its first podcast for grown-ups.
Raising Us, hosted by journalist and author Elise Hu, will launch on 9 September and aims to help parents and carers navigate the questions children are already asking.
Hu, best known for hosting TED Talks Daily and Forever 35, will lead conversations that connect real-world issues with expert guidance and lived experiences.
Each episode will feature trusted voices including doctors, educators and public figures, blending professional insight with personal stories to create a supportive resource for families.
The podcast will follow the rhythms of the school year, releasing episodes around seasonal events, anniversaries and current issues.
Subjects will cover big questions such as why laws matter, why bodies change during puberty, and why discrimination exists, offering adults the tools to engage with children thoughtfully.
Jelani Memory, founder of A Kids Co. and author of A Kids Book About Racism, explained: “From day one, our mission has been rooted in trust, trusting kids to ask big questions, and trusting grownups to show up with real answers. That’s what Raising Us is all about.”
Alongside the podcast, A Kids Co. will provide curated reading lists, downloadable Conversation Starter Kits and other family-friendly resources to encourage dialogue at home.
The first episode will tackle fatphobia and body image, featuring model and activist Tess Holliday alongside journalist Virginia Sole-Smith.
Future episodes will explore themes including neurodiversity, democracy and puberty, with guests such as actor and author Lake Bell, paediatrician Dr Cara Natterson, and educator Sharon McMahon.
Other contributors include W. Kamau Bell, Negin Farsad, Baratunde Thurston and Jason Reynolds.
Hu believes the series is as much about supporting adults as it is about preparing children. “Every time we show up for our children, we’re not just raising thoughtful kids, we’re raising us too,” she said.
The first season is sponsored by Nugget, the children’s play furniture brand with the series officially launching on 9 September on most podcast platforms and YouTube.
