Apple Music Classical unveils Hamnet live EP recording exclusive

Apple Music Classical will exclusively release three live tracks from Max Richter’s Hamnet soundtrack.

The EP, titled Max Richter: Hamnet Live, features newly arranged recordings captured at London’s Southwark Cathedral and will be available only on the streaming service for three months.

The tracks, See things that others don’t, Of the sky and Of the undiscovered country, were performed by a specially assembled 40-piece orchestra and choir in front of a capacity audience.

They were recorded by Decca Records and Abbey Road Studios during what is described as the only live performance of the score.

The concert marked the release of the Hamnet soundtrack and followed the film’s theatrical rollout after its November 2025 debut in the US. The production has since received Academy Award, Critics Choice, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations.

Richter newly arranged the pieces for orchestra and choir, conducting duties handled by Hugh Tieppo-Brunt, with Tenebrae choir joining Richter on piano.

Discussing the approach to the score, Max Richter said: “In composing the score I used the basic elements of Elizabethan music – period instrumentation, grammar, and sensibility, but applied them in ways that emerge directly from the story’s psychology.

“I sketched ideas reflecting themes of familial love and loss, our place in the natural world and Agnes’ inner journey. Chloé incorporated some of these during filming and they also informed the edit.”

Apple Music Classical says the Southwark Cathedral setting was chosen for its historical links to William Shakespeare.

The cathedral stands close to the site of the original Globe Theatre and houses a Shakespeare memorial, stained glass window and the ledger stone of his brother, located in the choir area behind where the orchestra performed.
