AudioUK backs DCMS study into UK podcast and audio sector

AudioUK is supporting new government research intended to measure the true scale of the UK podcasting and audio industry.

The organisation is working with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on a study designed to provide clearer data on the size, value and structure of podcasting and wider audio activity across the UK, with the findings expected to inform future policy decisions.

DCMS has appointed Frontier Economics to carry out the research, which will involve collecting information from suppliers and organisations working across podcasting, audio production and related services.

As part of the project, AudioUK is encouraging companies throughout the sector to take part in a short online survey to capture a representative snapshot of how the industry operates and where economic value is being created.

The survey is expected to take no more than 10 minutes to complete, with responses handled confidentially and reported only in aggregated form by Frontier Economics, in line with its published confidentiality statement.

Participants are being asked to submit responses by Tuesday 10 February, helping ensure the research reflects a broad range of voices from across the podcasting and audio industry.

Hannah Brankin, Policy and Regulation Lead at AudioUK, said: โ€œThis research is a vital opportunity to build a clearer picture of the UKโ€™s podcasting and audio sector.

โ€œBy contributing, companies across the industry can help ensure that the scale, value and diversity of audio in the UK is properly understood, and that future policy is informed by robust, representative evidence.โ€

The study comes as podcasting continues to expand across production, advertising, technology and distribution, with industry groups increasingly calling for more detailed data to support conversations with policymakers and regulators.

AudioUK said contributions from companies of all sizes would help demonstrate the breadth of activity taking place across the UK, from independent producers to larger networks and service providers.

You can find the survey here.

Any questions about the survey can be directed to AudioUKsurvey@frontier-economics.com, with AudioUK urging members and non-members alike to take part before the deadline.
