BBC launches The Global Story podcast with Asma Khalid and Tristan Redman

The BBC is launching a new daily podcast hosted by former NPR White House correspondent Asma Khalid and former Al Jazeera international reporter Tristan Redman.

From both Washington DC and London, The Global Story will explore how America and the world shape each other every day, examining global news and its connections to US politics.

Asma Khalid has spent the last decade covering US politics for NPR and co-hosting its Politics Podcast, while Tristan Redman brings two decades of international reporting experience, including coverage of the Ukraine war, the Arab Spring, and the Hong Kong protests.

He also hosted the successful narrative series Ghost Story, which reached number one on Apple Podcasts in both the US and UK.

The podcast team also includes executive editor Annie Brown, former senior producer for The Daily from The New York Times.

Jon Zilkha, Controller of BBC World Service English, said the podcast will showcase the BBC’s “accurate, insightful journalism” at a time when audiences need perspective on the fast-changing political landscape.

Richard Knight, Director of Audio at BBC Studios, said: “The world is changing quickly and the causes and consequences of that change are visible in many places. That’s the global story we are all living through.”

The Global Story launches on 3 September with episodes released every weekday morning. It will be available in the UK on BBC Sounds, and outside the UK on BBC.com, the BBC app, and wherever you get BBC podcasts.

The BBC says this new podcast reflects its commitment to growing its international audience and strengthening its trusted global news coverage.
