Brand-new current affairs podcast launched by BBC Scotland

BBC Scotland is launching a news podcast which will be available every Monday to Thursday at 5pm.

Hosted by BBC News Scotland’s Martin Geissler, each episode of Scotcast will include colleagues and guests in the studio taking a detailed look at a story of real significance in Scotland.

Topics will range from hard news, politics, to culture, entertainment and sport.

As an avid podcast listener for almost 20 years, Geissler was an early adopter of the format. He says back then, he knew of only a handful of podcasts that were any good, but now subscribes to 79 of them, although not one specifically covering Scottish news and current affairs.

That’s why he’s launching Scotcast, which also go out on television on BBC Scotland in the evenings and on the radio too.

“The Scotcast format will allow us to really get into an issue and look at it in depth,” says Martin Geissler. “It’s something that’s always harder to achieve in a busy news programme on the radio or television.

“If we do our jobs properly, we’ll help you to better understand the country we live in and how it works. But we want it to be an easy listen – hopefully we’ll make you laugh as well as think.”

Scotcast aaunches today, 13 January on BBC Sounds, with a new episode at 5pm every Monday to Friday.
