Charlie Higson presents History of the Monarchy podcast

Launched to coincide with the ascension of Charles III, Charlie Higson presents the Willy Willy Harry Stee… podcast.

It’s his personal take on the story of England’s kings and queens.

The schooltime rhyme, which lists every English monarch since William the Conqueror, will be familiar to many educated in the UK, but beyond their names, who were Willy, Willy, Harry, Stee and the rest of their regal cohort?

Actor, comedian, and novice historian, Charlie Higson, attempts to answer this question, and many more, with the help of historical experts, including Tom Holland, Dan Jones, Helen Castor, Tracy Borman and Lord Charles Spencer.

Charlie Higson explains: “I’m neither a royalist nor a republican, I just think that the story of our monarchy is extraordinary, and, beyond the obvious names like William the Conqueror, Henry VIII and Queen Victoria, sadly little known. I’ve really enjoyed finding out more about all the people in the rhyme, and my listeners seem to be loving it as well.”

Written and presented by Charlie Higson, Willy Willy Harry Stee has received a warm response with audiences since its launch in May. New episodes are released each Friday on all podcast platforms.
