Television presenter Cherry Healey and GP Dr Amir Khan are joining forces for a new podcast called No Appointment Necessary.
Produced by Viral Tribe, the weekly show will explore health and wellbeing in an open, candid and often light-hearted way.
The idea stems from research showing that more than 80 per cent of women say they do not feel heard during medical appointments, at a time when GP access is increasingly difficult.
Offering health advice in a relaxed and conversational style, the podcast will encourage listeners to feel more confident about their wellbeing.
Each episode features two key elements: a “weekly check-in” with Cherry and Dr Amir discussing current health topics ranging from weight-loss jabs and dementia prevention to alcohol, menopause and sexual wellbeing, and a “chat GP” section where Cherry puts listeners’ submitted questions directly to Dr Amir.
Questions could be as serious as worrying lumps or as everyday as ingrown hairs, with nothing considered too embarrassing or taboo.
Cherry Healey explained: “I’ve been wanting to create a podcast focusing on women’s health for a long time, but it’s just never felt quite right, and then an opportunity came up to work with Dr Amir, and it felt like the project I’ve been waiting for.
“This is the kind of podcast you might forward to a friend who’s struggling with a certain issue, especially if it’s something really awkward to talk about.”
Dr Amir Khan added: “No Appointment Necessary is all about making health and wellbeing conversations feel like they’re happening with your best friends.
“We’ll be laughing, sharing stories, and bringing the science to life in a way that feels warm, accessible and, most of all, fun. From breaking taboos to busting myths, we want listeners to feel reassured, informed and empowered about their own health.”
No Appointment Necessary launches on 7 October, with new episodes released every Tuesday on all major podcast platforms and on YouTube.
