Wondery has launched a new comedy video podcast from Dax Shepard, Mom’s Car.
The series follows Shepard, best known for Armchair Expert, and his childhood best friend Aaron Weakley as they cruise through Los Angeles in Kristen Bell’s car delivering takeaway food, joined by special guests in the back seat.
Mom’s Car offers audiences a new perspective on Shepard and Weakley’s four-decade-long friendship, with the pair transforming routine journeys into entertaining adventures.
Weakley is already well known to Armchair Expert listeners as a recurring guest, and this new series builds on their natural chemistry. The podcast seeks to capture the nostalgic spirit of borrowing your mum’s car, where conversation and camaraderie were as important as the drive itself.
Speaking about the project, Shepard said: “I’ve been pining for the days when my best friend Aaron and I would drive around aimlessly for hours, laughing and telling stories. I couldn’t think of a valid reason why we should resume that behaviour in our 50s, and then along came Uber Eats.”
Shepard has enjoyed a varied career across film and television, including roles in NBC’s Parenthood, Netflix’s The Ranch, and ABC’s Bless This Mess.
He also starred in and directed the films Hit and Run and CHiPs, in addition to earlier work in Without a Paddle and Idiocracy. His breakthrough came on MTV’s Punk’d, and more recently he co-hosted Top Gear America.
Mom’s Car is co-produced by Armchair Expert and Wondery, with new episodes released weekly from today, 26 August on YouTube and all podcast platforms.
