Since launching on Spotify this May, Dua Lipa’s Service95 Book Club has quickly become a breakout success in the video podcast space.
It has seen more than 1.2 million users streaming both her music and the podcast.
Spotify data shows that 86 percent of listeners watch with video in the foreground, highlighting the growing appetite for visual podcasting.
The series has also attracted crossover audiences, with comedy, health, culture, education and music among the most popular categories consumed by her music fans who also tune into the podcast.
Building on that momentum, Spotify Audiobooks hosted a special live edition of Service95 Book Club yesterday (15 September) at the New York Public Library.
The event featured acclaimed author David Szalay, whose novel Flesh is the October book club pick, in conversation with Dua Lipa and followed by a fan Q&A led by Spotify’s Chief Public Affairs Officer Dustee Jenkins.
Speaking about the audiobook version of his novel, Szalay explained: “With Flesh, the important thing was having someone who could bring neutrality, who could meet the style of the book and have a good feel for the tone.” He added that he is proud the novel “quite accurately portrays the way people change and the ways we stay the same.”
Spotify’s Chief Public Affairs Officer Dustee Jenkins told the audience: “At Spotify, we’re on a mission to build the ultimate experience that delivers creativity to the world and brings fans like you closer to your favourite artists and the books that you love.”
With a strong debut and enthusiastic engagement from readers and fans, Dua’s Service95 Book Club continues to expand her creative brand beyond music while underlining Spotify’s growing focus on video and audiobooks.
