Elis James and John Robins have launched a new production company focused on expanding their podcast output and developing new comedy and entertainment projects.
Significant Productions, which also includes long-term producer Dave Masterman as co-founder, will sit behind The Elis James and John Robins Show. It intends to build a wider slate of audio and visual content, with an emphasis on comedy alongside more thoughtful formats for different audiences.
One of the first projects to return under the new banner is wellbeing podcast How Do You Cope?, which is due back later this month with a new set of guests discussing personal challenges and experiences from across public life.
The company is also linked to The Socially Distant Sports Bar, hosted by Elis James alongside Mike Bubbins and Steff Garrero, which joined the network earlier this year and adds sport-focused comedy to the growing portfolio.
The three founders have worked together for more than twelve years, during which time their shows have received recognition across major UK audio awards, helping establish their reputation for long-running podcast formats.
While the launch focuses on existing titles, the company says its longer-term aim is to develop original ideas and collaborate with other producers, organisations and media partners across audio and video.
Elis said the company had been a long-standing ambition, adding that he was looking forward to creating new projects with people whose work he admired, while continuing to make podcasts he enjoyed working on.
John said the launch marked another attempt to take their work to new platforms, joking that they still want to put their shows on larger screens through digital video, even if that meant watching YouTube on a television.
Dave Masterman said Significant Productions was a company he had wanted to build for some time, describing the move as an opportunity to share a common vision with two broadcasters he had worked closely with for years.
The company says more details about future projects will be announced over the coming months as its development slate expands.
