First of its kind partnership for Spotify and Patreon

Spotify and Patreon’s integration is now live for all creators and users globally.

Podcast creators can now deliver Patreon-exclusive content to their listeners on Spotify for the first time.

Patrons (subscribers on Patreon) are also able to link Patreon to their Spotify account to access their Patreon-exclusive podcasts from where they’re already listening to all their audio content.

The partnership was announced earlier this year at Spotify’s Stream On. Patreon creators can distribute to Spotify in their Creator Account settings in just a few steps. Once the option to sync to Spotify is toggled on, all current and future content will be made available on Spotify.

Once creators have turned on the ability to sync their content to Spotify, Patreon content will show up with a padlock and a “Paid” tag.

When a listener clicks on the Patreon content, they’ll be prompted to link their Patreon to Spotify or to sign up for the creator’s Patreon membership. After the accounts are linked, the Patreon content will show as unlocked for the listener. Content access entitlements are done at the post level on Patreon.

Podcasters now have more choice and opportunities to decide which monetization solution works best for them and they can broaden the distribution of their subscription-based content.

Spotify is also beginning to roll out a new feature to help creators promote their subscription on Spotify: eligible creators can now add a banner to their show page directing users to their paid feed, helping build awareness for the creator’s paid offering and generate more subscribers.

Gustav Söderström, Co-President and CPO, Spotify said: “Spotify’s partnership with Patreon underscores our commitment to give creators more power and choice, and provide listeners with access to different types of content.

“Many podcasters use Patreon to connect with their fans, and, for the first time ever, they can link their accounts so fans can access and listen to these shows on Spotify.

“This partnership gives podcasters a new opportunity to reach Spotify’s global audience, over 551M users, to increase their income and grow their show.”

Julian Gutman, CPO, Patreon added: “We are incredibly excited about this partnership with Spotify where creators can seamlessly integrate Patreon’s industry-leading podcast membership tools to grow their business, host their listener community, and directly engage with their most passionate listeners.

“The partnership between Patreon and Spotify represents shared values and a vision of a new future for internet creators. While some platforms focus on building closed systems that push creators and their fans farther apart, Spotify and Patreon are building a more open ecosystem that delivers greater value to everyone, particularly creators and fans.”
