The long-running Hallam FM breakfast team of Big John, Liesl and James are reuniting for a brand-new weekly podcast.
It will bring their familiar mix of humour and energy back to listeners after the show ended earlier this year.
John Harrison, better known as Big John, hosted Big John at Breakfast on Hallam FM and later Hits Radio South Yorkshire for 25 years until June, when Bauer introduced a new national breakfast show across the Hits Radio Network.
The change marked the end of an era in South Yorkshire radio, but the trio are now returning in podcast form.
Announcing the news on Facebook, Harrison explained that while he had welcomed the change of pace, he still felt a strong connection to listeners. “I’d been feeling guilty that some people might think we’d just dumped and ran and abandoned our friends,” he wrote. “However, it was never goodbye forever. It was just a pause.
“After 25 years of waking up South Yorkshire, we have unfinished business, you and I. So, let’s do something!”
The new podcast, titled Big John At Breakfast – FRIDAYS!, will launch on 29 August and release weekly episodes every Friday.
Harrison confirmed that both Liesl and James will be part of the show, which he described as being similar in spirit to their popular Friday morning broadcasts. He also revealed that fan favourite segment The Official Friday Song will make a return as part of the podcast.
Listeners will be able to find the show on major platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Audible and Amazon Music.
It will also be accessible via smart speakers by asking to “Play Big John At Breakfast – FRIDAYS!” Harrison joked that missing out the word “Fridays” could lead devices to play a random radio station instead!
