The Global Player app can now be accessed directly through car infotainment systems, with a seamless access to thousands of podcasts and radio on the road.
The expansion builds on the app’s earlier integration with BMW, which was the first manufacturer to offer Global Player directly within BMW and MINI vehicles.
Now, drivers can stream podcasts and playlists, catch up on shows from the past seven days, and rewind live radio, all without connecting a smartphone.
Global Player is available via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and for the first time on Android Automotive, the built-in operating system that runs natively on a car’s infotainment display.
Compatible vehicles can find the app in their own stores, including the BMW Connected Store and Google Play Store.
The app covers a broad range of content, including podcasts, playlists, and live radio from Global’s brands such as Heart, Capital, Smooth, Classic FM, LBC, Radio X and Gold Radio.
Users can control everything through the touchscreen or voice assistant, while continuing exactly where they left off across devices.
Stephen Toombs, Head of In-Car Distribution for Global Player, said: “We know how important it is to our listeners to have easy access to their favourite radio brands and podcasts, so we’re thrilled to bring Global Player directly into cars and onto their dashboards.
“Among other things, the in-car app functionality allows people to carry on exactly where they left off when they were listening elsewhere, without the need of a smartphone and dataplan.”
The free app is already available across BMW, MINI, Volvo, Polestar, Renault and Nissan, with further launches expected Later this year. The integration gives podcast listeners a smoother, more convenient way to enjoy shows and playlists while driving.
