History For F***’s Sake podcast promises to make past exciting

A new history podcast will aim to shake up how people engage with the past.

History For F**’s Sake (HISTORYFFS), hosted by storyteller Sarah Dowd, takes a witty, cultural and irreverent look at history, mixing comedy with storytelling to show how the past continues to shape art, theatre, film and daily life.

“History isn’t boring; it’s our story,” says Dowd. “It’s in the songs we sing, the plays we perform, the films we binge. This podcast is for anyone who’s ever thought history wasn’t for them.”

The podcast is designed for artists, writers, performers and culture fans, as well as anyone seeking a more human and entertaining way to connect with history.

Each episode ties into a cultural moment or anniversary, combining storytelling with conversations from historians, artists and innovators.

Season one will cover everything from fashion revolutions to battlefield ballads. Guests include BBC broadcaster Dr Kate Kennedy, fashion historian Louisa Rogers, cultural leader Simon Green and vocal coach and veteran Gaz Brown.

Ahead of launch on 21 October, you can join a virtual launch party on 7 October, featuring sneak previews, behind-the-scenes stories and live storytelling, with attendees also receiving exclusive HISTORYFFS merchandise.
