History Hit is releasing a major set of documentaries, podcasts, and YouTube premieres this December.
The lineup covers ancient history, medieval mysteries, ghost stories, and landmark investigations.
It also includes new podcast episodes that expand on many of these themes. All content will run across Dan Snow’s streaming service, the History Hit podcast network, and several on Little Dot YouTube channels.
The month begins on 4 December with Ancient Wonders – The Greeks in Italy. Tristan Hughes travels to Paestum to explore its temples, artwork, and dramatic ruins.
He explains how Greek settlers built powerful colonies in this region long before the Romans came to dominate Italy.
On 11 December, Dan Snow fronts Egypt Before the Pharaohs – The Ashmolean Up Close. He examines delicate figurines, rare artefacts, and early works of craftsmanship from the Ashmolean Museum. These objects reveal how Egyptian society developed centuries before the first pharaohs emerged.
Medieval Winter Ghosts arrives on 18 December. Eleanor Janega looks at centuries of eerie winter tales and the medieval belief systems behind them.
She visits atmospheric sites such as Binham Priory and shows how later writers, including M. R. James, reshaped these stories for modern audiences.
The month continues on 22 December with Vikings of Iceland. Dan Snow heads to Iceland and follows the footsteps of the early Viking settlers.
He explores how they survived the island’s harsh conditions and built thriving communities at the edge of the Arctic this year.
Over on YouTube, History Hit premieres Auschwitz Uncovered on 18 December. Dr James Bulgin provides a clear and direct look at how the Nazi killing system operated.
Survivor accounts and new evidence help explain the brutal efficiency behind the machinery of mass murder.
December also brings a strong list of new podcast episodes.
Dan Snow’s History Hit releases American Invasion of Canada on 11 December, exploring the failed invasions of 1812.
The Ancients covers the Rise of Herod on the same day.
Gone Medieval releases two episodes on Norwich on 12 and 16 December, looking at the city’s castle, its archaeological finds, and the story of the medieval Blood Libel.
On 12 December, Betwixt the Sheets examines Freud’s private life and how his personal fixations shaped his theories.
Not Just the Tudors ends the month on 22 December with Did Oliver Cromwell Ban Christmas?, a look at the 1647 Plum Pudding Riots and the public backlash to Puritan rule.
