How Do We Manage? podcast tackles menopause myths with Dr Naomi Potter

A special episode of Stephanie von Bismarck’s podcast How Do We Manage? has been released to mark Menopause Awareness Month.

Available now, this episode features Dr Naomi Potter, co-author of Menopausing with Davina McCall. Together, they discuss the reality of menopause, from symptoms and treatment options to the cultural stigma that still surrounds it.

Dr Potter, founder of Menopause Care, the UK’s leading menopause clinic, explains the physical and mental health challenges many women face during menopause and perimenopause, including hot flushes, night sweats, and anxiety.

She offers practical guidance on treatment routes, from Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT) to natural and lifestyle-based approaches, stressing that “you can get transformative results” with the right care.

Reflecting on her early medical training, Dr Potter says menopause was once ignored in education and medicine. Von Bismarck also shares her mother’s experience of being dismissed by doctors, leading to a wider discussion about the need for menopause awareness in schools and at home.

The episode features a “Fact or Fiction” segment, where Dr Potter clarifies persistent myths including whether HRT causes cancer and if pregnancy is still possible during perimenopause. Her message to listeners is clear: “Don’t just put up with it.” She also urges men to learn more to better support the women in their lives.

How Do We Manage? releases new episodes every Tuesday on all major podcast platforms.
