BBC Radio 6 Music’s autumn schedule includes Kate Moss fronting a new David Bowie podcast.
Music Uncovered, David Bowie: Changeling is an eight-part, 15-minute-per-episode podcast exploring Bowie’s artistic evolution between 1970 and 1975.
Launching on BBC Sounds at 6am on 10 September, and broadcast on 6 Music from 22 September, the series offers an in-depth look at how Bowie transformed himself into an era-defining rock icon.
It features rare and unheard archive audio, including a 2001 interview with podcast creator Des Shaw, newly discovered BBC material, and contributions from Boy George, Elton John, Iggy Pop, Robbie Williams and Chrissie Hynde, alongside archive interviews with Lady Gaga, Lou Reed and Sinéad O’Connor.
Episodes cover Bowie’s early work with The Hype, his fascination with Andy Warhol, the Ziggy Stardust years, the Hammersmith Odeon farewell show, The 1980 Floor Show, and the creation of Diamond Dogs and The Thin White Duke.
Speaking about the project, Kate Moss said: “David Bowie was a very special person. Someone who was much more than a friend – he was an enigma. This podcast is a real celebration of my friend, a true British icon.”
Beth Ditto, who will present a regular Tuesday feature about listener dilemmas on Nick Grimshaw’s Breakfast Show, will also host Indie Forever Disco in November. The 20-part series on BBC Sounds celebrates the biggest indie hits past and present.
From 15 September, BBC Sounds will also debut Grounding, a 12-part, two-hour series hosted by four neurodivergent artists; AFRODEUTSCHE, Blindboyboatclub, Emma-Jean Thackray and Gary Numan. Each of them will explore how their neurodivergence shapes their creativity and relationship with music.
Produced with The Donaldson Trust, episodes will delve into themes such as solitude, love, obsession and identity.
Samantha Moy, Head of BBC Radio 6 Music, said: “It’s a joy to welcome Kate Moss to celebrate an artist close to her heart and ours – David Bowie.
“I’m proud to be working with four incredible neurodivergent artists in Grounding, and with Beth Ditto on both the Breakfast Show and Indie Forever Disco.”
