ReCurrent is back for a second season, exploring how culture connects people across generations through stories of art, music, and memory.
In ReCurrent: Stories about What We Gain by Keeping the Past Present, host Jaime Roque delves into how creative expression shapes belonging.
From a camera handed down between mentors to the rediscovery of a lost record that once defined a community, each episode highlights how memory and culture can bridge the past and future, creating a shared sense of identity.
“Made in the wild, in the streets, archives, and neighbourhoods where Getty stories are also found, ReCurrent shows how cultural heritage keeps us close while making room for who we’re becoming,” says host Jaime Roque.
This season’s episodes cover iconic moments and movements: the reimagining of the Virgin of Guadalupe in The Virgin Mary in the Americas, the dual worlds of photographer George Rodríguez, and the mentorship of María Magdalena Campos-Pons with young photographers in Las Fotos.
Later episodes revisit Thelonious Monk’s near-forgotten East Palo Alto concert, the history of Dootone Records before Motown, and the art of activism in 1980s Los Angeles.
Each story offers a look at how cultural memory endures through faith, music, mentorship, and resistance, reminding us that preserving the past is an act of connection.
ReCurrent season two is available weekly on the Getty website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other platforms.
