Lee Child takes over Simon Mayo’s Books of the Year podcast for one-off special

Lee Child, best-selling author of the Jack Reacher novel series, is taking over Simon Mayo’s Books of the Year podcast for a one-off special 60-minute episode, launching on 19 August.

Broadcasting from his home in Wyoming, Lee Child will be turning his hand to podcast presenting for the first time, with his first guest Simon Mayo discussing his new novel Knife Edge.

The one-off special discusses everything from Lee’s case of mistaken identity on Dutch TV and his opinions on a Covid-era Jack Reacher, to Simon’s experiences of being on-air during 9/11.

The podcast dives into the subject of writing, with Lee Child arguing ‘You should wait until you turn 50… do you know enough before that?’ and also touches on the new age of American press, questioning ‘Through the American lens, virtually nothing in the media is true – it’s just one shade of propaganda versus another.’

Simon Mayo said of the episode special: “Annoyingly, Lee Child turns out to be a great podcast host. Witty, informed, in charge… being interviewed by him was disconcerting but a great honour.”

Released weekly, Simon Mayo’s Books of the Year podcast is available via Apple podcasts.
