The accused, supported by his English wife Miranda, is determined to prove he is not Nicholas Rossi and enlists a top US lawyer to help him fight his case.
Arthur and Miranda Knight invite investigative journalist Jane MacSorley to their Glasgow home for dinner. That evening sets Jane off on a yearlong investigation to find out the truth.
Jane travels from Scotland to Rhode Island, and looks into Nicholas Rossi’s disturbing backstory, covering his childhood, his conviction for sexual assault and the matter of the faked death, which draws the attention of global law enforcement.
Arthur and Miranda Knight give several on-record interviews where Arthur’s tale is laid bare and questioned by Jane as she gradually begins to question her strong, early conviction that Arthur is telling the truth, and uncovers a significant development in the case.

“Working on this story was like nothing I had ever been involved with in my 30 years of journalism. And remarkably it was on my doorstep. The key moment was uncovering the evidence that everyone working on this case has been so desperate to find but hadn’t succeeded. We did!”
