New podcast Lip Service dives into legacy of the Rolling Stones

A new podcast series promises to explore the Rolling Stones’ remarkable history through conversations with those who lived it.

Lip Service, hosted by journalist Simon Harper, launched this week with its first episode featuring Andrew Loog Oldham, the band’s original manager and producer.

Oldham, who began working with the Stones in 1963 when he was just nineteen, reflects on his vision for the group and the business strategies that helped shape their early career.

In the hour-long conversation, Oldham also opens up about his personal struggles with mental health, his lack of experience when producing the band’s first records, and the challenges of eventually being replaced by American manager Allen Klein.

The episode paints a vivid picture of the chaos and creativity that defined the Stones’ first years together.

New episodes of Lip Service will be released every two weeks, each highlighting a different voice from the band’s extensive career.

Harper plans to interview producers, photographers, and members of the current touring lineup, building a range of perspectives that together aim to capture the enduring impact of one of the world’s most influential bands.

Harper, who founded Clash Magazine in 2004 and was its editor-in-chief until 2020, has written for outlets including GQ, The Telegraph, Classic Rock, and Radio Times.

A lifelong Stones fan, he says the series is designed to deliver a definitive account of the band’s legacy, with insights from those who helped create it.

Lip Service is available on major podcast platforms now.
