Red Dragon Radio celebrated in new 40-year documentary podcast

A new three-part podcast has been released to mark 40 years since the launch of Red Dragon Radio, featuring memories from former presenters and producers.

The documentary brings together voices including Chris Ashley, Al Dupres, Phil Kennedy, Matt Rosser, Gary Mackenzie, Kevin Thomas, Bill Everatt, Jon Gripton, Mike George, Warren Moore, James Stodd, Steve Martin, Adrian Masters, Clare Lloyd, Charlotte Evans, Nick Webb, Gareth Williams, Julian Wharam and Damien St. John.

The series is narrated by Chris Moore and Jason Harold, both of whom hosted high-profile shows on the station.

Produced and conceived by Luke Davies, the project was born from his lifelong passion for Red Dragon Radio.

“I always wanted to do something for the Red Dragon anniversary,” Davies said. “Having grown up listening to the station, I thought it would be a good chance to hear the stories from those who worked there. This was a passion project, and I am so pleased it came together.”

The podcast reflects the station’s 25-year broadcasting history, from its launch in October 1985 and its news and sports coverage to the launch of Touch AM and the Capital Radio takeover.

It also explores the legacy Red Dragon left with listeners across South Wales, offering behind-the-scenes stories from those who helped shape the station’s identity.

You can hear the documentary via Buzzsprout, where all three episodes are available from today, 14 October, the day of the station’s launch in 1985.
