Rick Wakeman and Griff Rhys Jones launch nostalgic new podcast

Rick Wakeman and Griff Rhys Jones are joining forces for a brand-new weekly podcast.

The East Anglian neighbours will host The Sound Of The Seventy Year Olds, a show exploring cultural moments that shaped their lives and careers. The podcast reflects on decades of personal memories, entertainment milestones and social changes they experienced since the 1960s.

Both presenters have built influential careers across entertainment, with Wakeman known for global musical success and Rhys Jones recognised for redefining British television comedy. Their shared project focuses on everyday cultural references rather than political or historical turning points.

From Adore Audio, the series looks back at moments that held personal significance for their generation, including memories linked to television, music, pirate radio and popular confectionery.

They discuss how cultural shifts sometimes felt more immediate and memorable than wider national or international events.

The pair use humour and personal reflection to revisit how they reacted to changes during their youth and early careers.

The show also explores how ageing affects perspective, with Wakeman and Rhys Jones discussing how generational differences influence views on technology, lifestyle and modern entertainment.

This is the first time Wakeman and Rhys Jones have collaborated on a podcast series as they talk to audiences who enjoy nostalgia-based entertainment and personality led discussion formats. They also want to introduce younger listeners to cultural references and broadcast traditions that influenced British media across several decades.

New episodes of The Sound Of The Seventy Year Olds will be released weekly from 27 February on all major podcast platforms.
