Favourite stars past and present of Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks share intimate tales from behind the scenes in a new podcast Soap From The Box which launches this Sunday (11 October).
The podcast is the brainchild of Lee Salisbury, an award-winning director who has worked on all of the UK’s leading soaps.
Each week in Soap From The Box, Lee chats to a different actor, giving us a rare insight into their lives. The first episode features Shayne Ward who left ‘the cobbles’ dramatically when his character took his own life.
Shayne talks in depth about his portrayal of Aidan Connor in Coronation Street, a storyline that covered his character’s descent into depression and ultimate death. Shayne also talks about X Factor, his pop career, performing in the West End, and reveals to Lee that he could have replaced Jason Orange in Take That!
Lee Salisbury says: “For more than ten years I was privileged to work alongside the biggest names in UK soaps while they delivered some of the most talked about storylines making the headlines. The highlight of my soap career was directing Dame Barbara Windsor as she left the Queen Vic in flames. She was amazing to work with, as are the many amazing actors whom I’m lucky enough to now consider friends.
“The idea for Soap on the Box is to give fans the chance to hear intimate, personal chats with the stars so they get to know all the inside stories of the show, the characters they play and their real life. I think podcasts are an amazing way to create a wonderful intimacy with the audience, so I hope fans will grab a cuppa, settle down and feel that they are sharing the sofa with us.”
Twelve episodes have already been recorded, with one being released each Sunday starting this weekend.
Listeners can look forward to a special Corrie 60th anniversary episode with Sally Dynevor. Other episodes feature Nina Wadia, Catherine Tyldsley, Neil McDermott, Halyey Tamaddon, Nicola Wheeler and Denise Black with more to be announced.
Soap From The Box will be available via Apple, Spotify and google podcasts from Sunday (11 October 2020) and the latest news from the podcast can be followed on social via @soapfromthebox on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
