Special bonus BRITs episode of Sidetracked podcast now on BBC Sounds

Demonstrating you don’t necessarily need fancy equipment to produce a podcast, a special bonus BRITs episode of Sidetracked recorded in the back of a taxi has been released.

Co-host Nick Grimshaw is joined by singer and songwriter, CMAT, right after the ceremony, on their way to the afterparty, and together they debrief this year’s BRIT Awards.

They discuss all the goss about the winners, the performances and everything in between from the biggest night in British music. As well as some fun behind the scenes titbits, CMAT also announces her new album.

Some of the discussion points in this episode include:

  • CMAT addresses her ‘bum cleavage’ from last year in relation to Charli XCX’s nipples, which caused quite a stir! They make the point that Sabrina had scantily dressed dancers, but that isn’t coming under question, whereas ITV apparently wanted Charli to cover up – and the different standards of that.
  • CMAT shares her thoughts on why Charli wasn’t performing.
  • Nick and CMAT both obsess over JADE and the importance of her performance.
  • They discuss how outrageous it was that Ezra Collective were originally considered too inaccessible (being jazz artists) to perform and were only announced this week as performers.
  • CMAT announces that she’s finished her new album.

Released each Thursday, the Sidetracked podcast is hosted by Annie Macmanus and Nick Grimshaw as they gossip their way through the week in music, with the help of artists, friends, industry experts and listeners.

The special bonus BRITs episode is available now on BBC Sounds.
