Start Here podcast marks milestone with its two thousandth episode

The US daily podcast, Start Here, from ABC News will reach its two thousandth episode on 1 December, with a milestone episode.

It will highlight major stories of the day and close with a special version of its “One Last Thing” segment celebrating the show’s breadth, influence, and connection with listeners built over nearly eight years.

Since its launch in March 2018, the daily podcast has given audiences a clear summary of the top news in under thirty minutes. It has reported on topics ranging from rising real estate prices to long COVID’s impact on the labour market, alongside its Protecting Your Vote series which examined key issues around voter access this year.

Host Brad Mielke has navigated some of the world’s biggest stories with a focus on clarity and context.

He covered the 2024 presidential election, the COVID 19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and major environmental crises including the Los Angeles wildfires, while also speaking to influential figures such as Bill Gates and Dr Valerie Jones-Pryor.

The production team has interviewed guests from every continent as well as from locations in outer space and beneath the ocean surface.

The show has earned multiple honours during its run, including Edward R Murrow Awards for Innovation, Excellence in Sound, and Continuing Coverage, a Webby Award for Best News & Politics Podcast, a National Press Club Award from the New York Festivals Radio Awards for its reporting on the Dobbs decision, and a Signal Award for News & Politics – Shows.
