SuperPod, Southampton’s Charity Podcast Festival moves online for Comic Relief

The SuperPod charity event returns to raise money for Comic Relief the weekend prior to Red Nose Day, on Saturday 13 March, with the event being hosted wholly online for the first time.

There are 16 podcasts currently scheduled to take part, with the event livestreamed on social media and on multiple internet radio stations around the UK.

So far, the event has confirmed appearances from podcasts such as Never A Straight Answer, Cold Callers Comedy, Motherfunk, Cooking With Grief, Release The Clowns Sketch Comedy Podcast, The Dredgeland and Podcast Spectacular, with more to be announced soon and the full schedule to be confirmed in due course.

Podcaster Al Galpin is the organiser of the event, usually held in Southampton. In 2017 he organised the first SuperPod, a 36 hour non-stop live broadcast, following that success with a 2-day festival last March for Sport Relief which included live shows from the Football Book Club, SportSpiel and Life Goals with Theo Delaney.

Speaking about this year’s event, Al Says: “We’re excited to be once again raising money for Comic Relief. The current situation may mean we are unable to hold the event in-person as in previous years, however it also gives us the opportunity to bring in other podcasters who may not otherwise have been able to take part. Plus, we are creating a network of internet radio stations who will relay the event to new audiences.”

SuperPod will be broadcast via the SuperPod Facebook Page, Periscope/Twitter, YouTube and Twitch, while the audio will be streamed by The Bear internet radio station, offering the free feed to any other radio station that wishes to broadcast the event.

The event will raise money for Comic Relief, by way of donations to The Bear’s Just Giving page.
