Tangent Proptech podcast marks 100 episodes with Airbnb special

Tangent: Proptech is celebrating the major milestone of 100 episodes with a special on Airbnb.

The podcast and community covers real estate, technology and building innovation. It launched in 2020 and has grown into a trusted forum for founders, investors, operators and urban leaders shaping the future of the built environment.

Hosted by Proptech entrepreneur Edward Cohen alongside venture capitalists Jeffrey Berman and Zach Aarons, the show has now surpassed one hundred episodes exploring housing innovation, climate tech, the future of work and collaboration across the property and technology sectors.

Across its run, Tangent has focused on some of the most pressing challenges facing cities and buildings, including housing affordability, regulatory complexity and how technology can improve the way people live and work in urban environments.

The milestone one hundredth episode features a wide-ranging conversation with Eliza Lochner, Marketing Leader for the Real Estate team at Airbnb, focusing on the platform’s evolving relationship with multifamily and condo owners, operators, residents and cities.

The discussion centres on Airbnb-friendly programme, which allows renters to host short stays in approved buildings while giving property owners greater visibility and control.

“Nearly half of renters in the U.S. spend more than 30% of their income on rent,” Lochner explains. “Hosting can be a way for renters to earn extra income while still giving property owners transparency, controls and help ensure they can comply with local regulations.”

In the episode, Lochner outlines how the number of Airbnb-friendly buildings has grown from 175 to nearly 1,300, a shift driven by multifamily and condo owners and managers themselves.

She also shares feedback from hosts who see short-term letting as an extension of their everyday lives rather than a separate commercial operation.

“This is my home,” Lochner says. “My art is on the walls, my wine collection is here. I’m vetting guests because I live here too.”

The conversation also explores how flexible living models are reshaping residential developments, why REITs and institutional investors are increasingly embracing short-term rental tools, and how hospitality, real estate and technology are converging.

Airbnb’s role in supporting major global events, including the World Cup, and the wider economic impact on cities is also discussed as part of the broader picture.

Beyond the podcast, Tangent: Proptech positions itself as a community for Proptech founders, real estate investors and operators, venture capitalists and urban leaders who believe collaboration and better technology can improve buildings, communities and cities.

Since its launch, the show has featured conversations with high-profile industry figures including Spencer Rascoff, Brendan Wallace, Steve Eisman and Michael Rudin, helping build a loyal audience of decision-makers across real estate and technology.
