Betsy Burris, the psychotherapist and teacher educator behind Teaching through Emotions, has announced that the podcast will return for its third season on 4 September.
The show, which won a 2025 Women Who Podcast Award, is introducing new ways for educators to take part, alongside a premium subscription model to expand support for listeners.
Hosted by Burris and long-time Spanish teacher Joe Johnson, the podcast examines teaching through a psychodynamic lens, looking at difficult emotions and behaviours not as obstacles but as meaningful, useful experiences.
Each episode focuses on real-life stories of classroom challenges and the often surprising, positive outcomes that follow.
The most notable addition this season is a dedicated voicemail line that allows listeners to contribute their own stories directly to the show.
Teachers are invited to share personal experiences, whether it is an anxious first day, a memorable success, or a classroom crisis, by calling a dedicated US phone number (413.239.4158) and selected voicemails will be discussed and featured in future episodes.
“Our mission is always the same: to dive into those difficult, overwhelming stories that make you want to quit and show how simple reframing can lead to miraculous outcomes,” said Burris.
“This season, we’re not just telling stories; we’re creating a space for our listeners’ stories to be heard, validated, and learned from. When that ‘new school year energy’ runs out, whether it’s mid-October or the first day of school, we’re here for you.”
Co-host Johnson added: “We know our listeners have their own incredible stories, and we want to help them make the most of them. We’re inviting teachers to call us and share that thing they’ve lost sleep over or their worst teaching moment ever. We mean it.”
Alongside the listener hotline, Teaching through Emotions is expanding its Substack presence with a paid subscription. Premium members will receive access to Burris’s back catalogue of over 150 blog posts, exclusive bonus episodes, and discounts on her book The Feeling of Teaching.
To mark the launch, new yearly subscribers who join by the end of September 2025 will also be eligible for a free, one-hour consultation with Burris, valued at $250.
New episodes of Teaching through Emotions will be released every two weeks throughout the school year.
