The Teaching Through Emotions podcast is taking a fresh approach to Valentine’s Day with a new relationship focused initiative.
The podcast, which supports educators in navigating the emotional complexities of the classroom, is launching The Valentine’s Day Advent Calendar, a ten-part series designed to build meaningful and lasting personal connections.
Teaching Through Emotions is based around the belief that the emotional skills required to create safe, supportive classrooms are the same skills needed to sustain healthy relationships outside of work.
Its new Valentine’s themed project has been formed in line with the podcast’s mission of patience, conflict resolution, emotional awareness and clear boundaries.
Beginning on 2 February, the series replaces the traditional focus on gifts with a structured daily practice centred on what the podcast describes as the work, wherewithal and wisdom required to maintain genuine connection.
A new post will be published every weekday in the lead up to Valentine’s Day, inviting listeners and readers to reflect on one practical relationship skill at a time.
The central question guiding the series is a simple one: should every day be Valentine’s Day, rather than just one annual celebration.
Betsy Burris, creator and host of Teaching Through Emotions, says the aim is to shift attention away from performative romance and towards intentional emotional practice.
She says: “We want to celebrate the coming of the day by committing to being in healthy relationships.
“Each post will give readers food for thought as well as a specific skill to practice. If you practice these skills with your partner, your Valentine’s Day will be truly meaningful, the way it should be.”
Across the ten posts, the series explores core emotional intelligence tools that can be applied both at home and in professional settings.
One of the featured concepts is Staying in Your Garden, a foundational Teaching Through Emotions idea focused on boundaries, personal responsibility and recognising what is, and is not, within your control.
The Valentine’s Day Advent Calendar also marks an evolution for the podcast itself, moving beyond a purely listening based experience.
By encouraging daily action and reflection, the project turns audience engagement into an active practice, giving the Teaching Through Emotions community practical tools to apply in real relationships.
The first three posts will be made available free to all subscribers, offering an introduction to the series and its approach.
The remaining seven posts will be reserved for paid subscribers, reflecting a growing focus on deeper, sustained connection with the podcast’s audience.
