The Guardian strengthens podcast team with major new hires

The Guardian has unveiled a series of appointments as it continues to expand its podcasting presence.

It includes a new voice for its flagship news show and a growing emphasis on video podcasting.

Annie Kelly will become one of the presenters of Today in Focus from next week, joining Helen Pidd and Nosheen Iqbal in fronting the daily news podcast.

Meanwhile, Lucy Hough takes on the role of presenter for Today in Focus Extra, with Zoe Hitch stepping into the lead producer position and Ryan Ramgobin moving from Channel 4 News to become senior producer.

The organisation is also investing in video podcasting, with James Tindale joining from Pod Save the UK as lead producer for video for audio, alongside Eternity Uwaifo as social video producer and Natalie Gegan as social video designer.

Rory Symon has been hired from The News Agents as video producer, and Matt Bentley-Viney joins as social video producer, both focusing primarily on Football Weekly.

In the United States, Jonathan Menjivar will become executive producer at Guardian US, where he will lead the creation of a new video podcast. He moves from Pineapple Street Studios, bringing with him experience on Fresh Air and This American Life.

The appointments mark a significant step in the Guardian’s audio strategy, strengthening both daily news podcasts and the organisation’s investment in video formats. The publication says it will have more updates soon as it continues to expand in podcasting.
