The Observer launches new weekly culture podcast We Have Notes

The Observer has launched a new podcast hosted by writer and broadcaster Miranda Sawyer alongside journalist and broadcaster Liv Little.

Episode one of We Have Notes explores the rise of former Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall and the ever-growing true crime genre.

Future episodes will continue to explore stories at the heart of culture, aimed at listeners who want something different from political news or historical retrospectives.

For the co-host Sawyer, who has spent two decades critiquing podcasts for The Observer, the move into presenting one, marks a striking shift.

“It is a poacher-turned-gamekeeper experience, being a podcast reviewer and making one,” she explained, adding that balancing tone, timing and delivery is harder than it looks once the microphone is on.

Liv Little, who previously founded the pioneering magazine gal-dem and published her first novel Rosewater, brings both journalistic experience and wit to the show.

“Fun is what we are having,” her co-host Sawyer says, praising her intelligence and mischievous sense of humour.

This week’s discussion also includes Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff’s new investigative true crime podcast, The Missing Sister, which investigates the 2018 murder of midwifery student Joy Morgan.

The first episode of We Have Notes is available now, with new episodes released weekly on all podcast platforms.
