The Rise and Fall of Sex Pistols coming to BBC Sounds and 6 Music

A new BBC series will explore the story of one of Britain’s most notorious bands in The Rise and Fall of Sex Pistols.

Presented by 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq and The Raincoats’ Gina Birch, the eight-part series charts the band’s explosive journey from their first gig in November 1975 to their reunion shows in 2024, marking fifty years of cultural rebellion.

The podcast revisits how the Sex Pistols’ chaotic rise captured the anger of 1970s Britain, a time marked by unemployment, political unrest and social upheaval. Their short-lived existence embodied the raw spirit of punk, inspiring a generation from London to Glasgow.

Featuring new insights from author Chris Sullivan, photographer Dennis Morris and bassist Jah Wobble, the series also includes archive audio from Glen Matlock, John Lydon, Sid Vicious, Steve Jones and Paul Cook.

Figures who witnessed the movement first-hand also feature, including Bob Geldof, Vivienne Westwood, Siouxsie Sioux and Peter Hook.

All episodes will be available on BBC Sounds from 6am on 27 October and the programme will also air on BBC 6 Music on 3 November from midnight to 2am.
