Leeds-based audio agency, This Is Distorted has launched a paid internship programme, Sonic Youth, backed by Youth Music.
Its aim is to launch the production careers of two young people in Yorkshire who are passionate about audio and electronic music.
The eight-month long scheme will start this month and give two successful interns professional level production skills, access to industry networks, career coaching and a professional portfolio of work.
Andi Durrant, Director This Is Distorted said: “At This Is Distorted we are passionate about our Yorkshire roots and want to nurture new production talent and help open doors into what is a notoriously difficult profession to break into.”
Rebecca Lamb-Pritchard Head of Marketing at This Is Distorted added: “In the last 10 years the digital advancements in audio have made it much easier and accessible for anyone to start creating music and shows. But it has also led to the closure and streamlining of many regional radio stations, making it even more difficult for people starting out in music and audio to access industry level coaching and mentoring.
“We are proud to be partnering with Youth Music UK to ensure young people in Yorkshire are given the opportunities to nurture their talent and work in the music and audio industries”.
Matt Griffiths, Youth Music CEO commented: “It’s crucial we enable more young people to make, learn and earn in music, whatever their background or goal. That’s why we’re excited to invest in innovative organisations like This is Distorted, who are leading the way with their dedication to diversifying music.
“It’s really inspiring to see their Sonic Youth initiative removing barriers into the music industries for young people in Yorkshire, and hope it prompts others to take proactive steps that will equalise the sector.”
Applicants have until midnight on 19 January to apply and need to be aged 18-25 from the date the scheme commences. There’s no need to have qualifications or previous work experience, but you should be able to demonstrate passion for electronic music and the audio industry and have a raw skillset.
You can find more information and apply on the This Is Distorted Website.
