Black History, For Real is a new weekly podcast series breaking down the lesser-known events and individuals that have shaped black culture.
From Wondery, the podcast is hosted by TV writer, producer, and actress Franchesca Ramsey, alongside educator and digital storyteller Conscious Lee.
A 109-year-old black woman fights for reparations for her neighbourhood which was burned to the ground when she was a child.
The first woman on to the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorist List was a Black Panther. The richest person of all time, an African king, gave away so much gold that it caused Cairo’s economy to crash… for over a decade.
Across the series, Ramsey and Lee go beyond the already known stories, chronicling black trials and triumphs previously never heard. It’s an account of history’s most overlooked moments, with a mix of narrative storytelling and candid conversation.
Lee is a “purposefully provocative” innovator, educator, and content creator. In 2022, he was honoured with YouTube’s Content Creator Choice award and was nominated for his first NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Social Media Personality. Ramsey is an actress, writer, comedian and video blogger. Her videos have been featured on MTV, The NY Times and the BBC.
Black History, For Real is a Wondery Original production with production support by DCP Entertainment. The first episode is released today.
