When entries for the 2022 British Podcast Awards with Audible close on Monday 11 April, over 150 judges will begin to decide who is nominated for an award this year.
Overseeing the process, the Chair of Judges will be broadcasting legends Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel. Following in the footsteps of George The Poet, Dr Rangan Chatterjee and Miranda Sawyer, this yearโs Chair of Judges will ensure the judging panel is made up of the best in the industry and that its nominees reflect the true breadth of the UKโs podcast landscape.
The awards will be returning with an outdoor summer festival on 22 to 24 July, with the award ceremony on Saturday 23 July 23.
Thousands of podcasters will be trying to scoop โPodcast Of The Yearโ, as well as twenty individual trophies. Categories include Best Current Affairs, Best Fiction and the first ever โClimate Awardโ which celebrates the work happening in podcasting to address one of the biggest challenge of our time.
Jon Sopel says: โThe podcast space is so vibrant, so innovative and so exciting that I am thrilled to be joining Maitlis as a judge for these important awards.โ
Emily Maitlis adds: โItโs a huge honour to be invited to chair the judging panel of the BPAs. The British podcasting scene is more vibrant than ever and I canโt wait to hear the entries. See you all in July!”
The British Podcast Awards were the first to champion George The Poetโs seminal series, as well as hits Griefcast and Dear Joan & Jericha. Previous winners have seen huge spikes in listeners due to the exposure the awards bring to their podcast.
As part of its ongoing diversity and outreach initiatives, the British Podcast Awards will continue to discount fees for independent and non-commercial podcasts โ which make up the majority of the sector โ and, for the first time, have teamed up with the Podcasting Seriously Fund, who will refund entry fees from independent BIPOC, Queer and Trans audio producers.
The deadline for entry to the British Podcast Awards is Monday 11 April at midday.
