Patreon podcast earnings pass $629m as creator growth rises

Podcasters on Patreon earned more than $629 million last year, marking the platform’s highest-earning creative category.

The figure for 2025 represents a 33% increase on the previous year and highlights continued growth in direct-to-fan podcasting.

More than 47,000 podcasters are now earning through Patreon, supported by 7.6 million paid memberships within the platform’s podcast category.

The milestone follows ongoing investment in podcast-specific tools and partnerships. Patreon introduced its Podcast Network Partnership Program and expanded its integration with Spotify, allowing creators to distribute both exclusive and ad-supported content across platforms.

New features launched over the past year include episode syncing, multi-show management and custom audio previews, aimed at helping creators manage and grow subscription-based podcast businesses.

The company says the growth reflects a wider shift in the podcast sector away from scale-driven models towards direct relationships with audiences.

Rather than focusing on reach and advertising, creators are increasingly building revenue through paid communities and exclusive content.

Patreon reports that both creator and listener numbers are rising, with more fans choosing to pay for podcasts. The platform links this to changing audience behaviour, as crowded feeds and algorithm-driven discovery make it harder to retain listeners through traditional distribution alone.

Podcasting is also becoming part of broader creator businesses. Many podcasters are now working across formats including video, newsletters and live streams, using podcasts as a central part of their output while offering additional content and experiences to paying supporters.

The company says successful creators are building subscription ecosystems around their shows, including bonus episodes, ad-free listening and community interaction.

It adds that niche content areas continue to perform strongly, with communities forming around specific interests and genres.

Patreon maintains that its model, where revenue is tied directly to creator earnings, is designed to support long-term sustainability. The platform says this approach will continue to shape its product development and partnerships as podcasting evolves.
