Scottish Podcast Awards reveal Spotify Listeners’ Choice Award shortlist

Public voting has opened for the Spotify Listeners’ Choice Award at the first Scottish Podcast Awards.

A mix of well-known names and podcast creators were in Glasgow this week as the shortlist was revealed at The Social Hub’s new playroom.

Among those nominated are Ford Kiernan and Shelby May for The Ford and Shelby Show, Marc Jennings and Stephen Buchanan for Some Laugh, and influencers Jess Tedds and Zoe Quinn for A Lot On Your Plate.

Also nominated is Open Goal, hosted by Si Ferry and Paul Slane. The show has grown from an online football podcast into a live event brand, selling out venues including Glasgow’s OVO Hydro and SWG3.

More than 400 podcasts were entered for the inaugural awards, which will be held at Old Fruitmarket on 25 June.

Ford Kiernan said: “It’s brilliant to be nominated. Podcasting has absolutely taken off, opening up a whole new world of entertainment.”

The awards are supported by Spotify, which is also hosting the public vote for the Listeners’ Choice category. Entry fees were removed to make it easier for creators to take part.

The event has been developed by Sixty Steps Productions, founded by Mark Moir, Scot Gardiner and Corrinne Gardiner.

Corrinne said the response showed there had been strong demand for an event celebrating Scotland’s podcasting community.
