All winners of the British Podcast Awards 20203 are revealed
The 2023 British Podcast Awards from PodPod have taken place at HERE at Outernet in London hosted by comedians Zoe Lyons and Stephen Bailey.
Among those joining them on stage were Elizabeth Day, Emily Maitlis, Jon Sopel & Lewis Goodall, Jamie Laing & Sophie Habboo, Poppy Jay & Rubina Pabani, Owain Wyn Evans, Miquita Oliver, Vogue Williams & Spencer Matthews, Jordan North and William Hanson.
Podcast of the Year was awarded to A Positive Life: HIV from Terrence Higgins to Today, hosted by singer-songwriter Sam Smith.
The Award was presented to the production team by Martyn Butler OBE and Richard Angell, Co-Founder and Chief Executive, respectively, of The Terrence Higgins Trust. The podcast also won Best Factual Podcast.
One of the biggest awards of the night, Podcast Champion – which honours a podcast that has changed the landscape of the medium and made a real impact – went to Vogue Williams and Joanne McNally for their hit podcast My Therapist Ghosted Me.
Previous winners include You, Me and the Big C, Happy Place and My Dad Wrote a Porno. They were presented the Award by Elizabeth Day, who was the Chair of Judges.
PodPod’s Hall of Fame was a new Award this year, created to celebrate those rare shows that, over the course of their run, have had a transformative effect on the world of podcasting and society as a whole.
My Dad Wrote a Porno received the honour, marking the end of its run which saw them receive over 430million global downloads, sell-out world tours, and garner celebrity fans from Dame Emma Thompson to Lin-Manuel Miranda.
RedHanded, the chart-topping true crime podcast hosted by Hannah Maguire and Suruthi Bala, was selected by the public as the winner of the Listeners’ Choice Award for a third year. Over 200,000 votes were cast for the Award.
The Guardian’s Chanté Joseph picked up Rising Star, whilst Nicky Campbell won Best Interview Podcast. Nicky was recognised for his ground-breaking, moving interview with Jenny Pearson, the daughter of the man who abused him as a child.
