Apple launches Adrift podcast telling true story of family survival

Adrift is the true story of the Robertsons, a young British family whose dream of sailing around the world turned into a terrifying battle for survival in the Pacific Ocean.

The Apple Original Podcast is hosted by award-winning journalist Becky Milligan. It uses immersive audio and first-person accounts to bring listeners directly into the Robertsons’ extraordinary ordeal.

The series follows Dougal and Lyn Robertson, their teenage children Douglas and Anne, and 12-year-old twins Sandy and Neil, as their yacht is destroyed hundreds of miles from land.

With no radio, scarce supplies, and sharks circling, the family must rely entirely on instinct, ingenuity, and one another to stay alive.

Blending cinematic sound design with a haunting original score, Adrift reveals never-before-heard details of the family’s ordeal and the emotional strain of survival.

“Even surrounded by danger, the greatest challenges they face may come from within,” Milligan says in the series introduction.

Produced by Blanchard House, the podcast combines storytelling with a global production involving sailors and sound recordists from around the world.

Apple TV subscribers can access all eight episodes on launch day by linking their subscription to Apple Podcasts, while non-subscribers will receive the first three episodes on 10 November, with new episodes released weekly until 15 December.
