Face-Off podcast returns to explore rising tensions between China and US

The award-winning podcast Face-Off returns with a new season examining the shifting relationship between China and the United States.

Hosted by Jane Perlez, Fellow at the Belfer Center and former New York Times Beijing Bureau Chief, and Rana Mitter, professor of modern China history, the series analyses the power struggle between the two nations and the growing global impact of their rivalry.

As political, economic and military tensions continue to rise, the hosts and their guests explore developments in soft power, alliances, and technology.

“We’re thrilled to launch a new season of Face-Off: US vs China. It feels we are at a completely different point in the relationship: more tumultuous than ever, more wide-ranging, and more consequential,” says Jane Perlez.

Season three follows the success of the first two seasons, which won a Gracie Award for Best Education Podcast and two Signal Awards for documentary excellence.

Upcoming episodes will examine how the leadership styles of Donald Trump and Xi Jinping shape today’s world order, along with stories on arms build-ups, youth disillusionment, and digital influence.

Guests lined up include Jake Sullivan, former National Security Adviser; robotics scientist Alberto Moel; retired Chinese general Zhou Bo; and Chinese American writer Chang Che.

“The Face-Off podcast had a riveting effect on professors and students. Its deep analysis and dramatic narrative kept listeners engaged and eager for more,” says Len Apcar, of Louisiana State University.

Face-Off is produced in partnership with Rowhome Productions and releases new episodes weekly on all major podcast platforms from 18 November.
