Inside Counter Terrorism Policing podcast returns with new series

Counter Terrorism Policing has launched a second season of its podcast offering rare insight into the people working to prevent terrorism.

Inside Counter Terrorism Policing returns with six new episodes featuring officers and staff discussing their roles, career paths and experiences working across the UK’s national security network.

The series is hosted by Amy Nagy, Head of Media and Digital at Counter Terrorism Policing. It highlights the work carried out daily to protect the public, with contributors speaking openly about their professional journeys and the challenges they face.

Interviewees remain anonymous throughout the podcast to protect their identities. The show shares perspectives from staff in a range of specialist roles, including explosives experts, intelligence officers, legal teams and those responsible for managing convicted terrorists living in the community.

The first episode focuses on Clara, an International Counter Terrorism Policing Liaison Officer based in a hostile overseas location.

Clara explains how a burglary in London changed her career plans after she moved to the city to pursue dancing, leading her instead into policing.

During the episode she reflects on previous roles as a homicide detective and hostage negotiator and describes the pressures of dealing with difficult incidents.

She also discusses the diplomatic aspects of her current work and the importance of international partnerships when responding to global security threats.

Another episode features Tom, Head of Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear operations for Counter Terrorism Policing London.

Tom spent 23 years in the military before joining policing, including deployments in Northern Ireland and Afghanistan.

In the podcast he speaks about the experience of approaching suspected bombs during active incidents and the responsibility of leading responses to attacks such as Parsons Green and Fishmongers’ Hall.

Other guests across the series include Alex, a national security lawyer who previously worked in the private sector before moving into public service.

Listeners will also hear from Grace, who joined policing at 17 as a finance officer and now leads the Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit, and Jenna, who works on decisions relating to convicted terrorists living in the community.

Season two of Inside Counter Terrorism Policing is available from today, 12 March on major podcast platforms.
