Rayo true crime podcast reopens unsolved Glasgow murder cases

A new Rayo Original Podcast is revisiting a series of unsolved murders in Glasgow and questioning how many victims remain without justice.

Beware Book examines the killings of eight women involved in prostitution between 1991 and 2005, with at least four of the cases still unsolved.

Over 14 years, the women were targeted in a city facing unemployment, crime and widespread heroin use. Many relied on each other for protection, recording warnings about dangerous clients in a leather journal they called the Beware Book.

Journalists Collette McGonigle and Callum McQuade from Clyde One lead the series, returning to cases that devastated families and left lasting effects across Glasgow.

The highest profile case, the murder of Emma Caldwell, was solved last year when Iain Packer was convicted 19 years after her death. After reporting on the trial, Collette and Callum revisited the remaining unsolved killings.

The series questions whether the investigations were handled without prejudice and whether opportunities to arrest Emma’s killer earlier were missed.

It includes interviews with victims’ loved ones, many speaking publicly at length for the first time, as well as a new interview with a former investigating officer who shares where he believes the Beware Book may now be.

The podcast also hears from Packer’s earliest known victim and from former officers who believe further details about his violent history may yet emerge.

Beware Book launches on 23 March, with the first two episodes released together and further episodes available every Monday for five weeks.

The series will be available on the Rayo app, Apple, Amazon Music and Spotify.
