Audible launches second series of I Am Not Nicholas podcast

The second series of the investigative podcast I Am Not Nicholas follows one of the most extraordinary fugitive cases in recent history.

It offers listeners unprecedented access to the courtroom drama surrounding Nicholas Rossi, an American fugitive accused of rape in Utah.

Presented by journalist Jane MacSorley, the new series follows the story beyond the verdict, documenting Rossi’s extradition from Scotland to the United States and his two separate rape trials in Utah.

Unlike many true crime podcasts that end at the courthouse steps, this series takes listeners inside the legal process, featuring courtroom recordings, victim testimony, and insights from jurors who decided Rossi’s fate.

Jane speaks with the two Utah women at the centre of the rape trials, who share their experiences and the long journey to justice.

She also interviews Derek Coats, the investigator who tracked Rossi from the US to the UK, and six members of the jury from the second trial, who provide detailed accounts of their deliberations.

In a unique development, Jane herself is called as a witness in the second trial, marking a first in her career and highlighting her deep involvement in the case.

After the series was recorded, it was reported that Nicholas Rossi died in hospital due to complications from an existing medical condition.

The series concludes with Jane informing Rossi’s ex-wife of his death in an emotional phone call.

Reflecting on her experience, Jane said: “This was essentially a gift of a story that I first started working on in January 2022.

“It ticked all the boxes: a fugitive, a faked death, multiple aliases, a transatlantic manhunt—and, better still, it was unfolding on my own doorstep in Edinburgh.

“Never for one second back then did I envisage that I would become so deeply involved in the story itself and end up coming face to face with Nicholas Rossi in a courtroom in Provo, Utah, as a prosecution witness.”

I Am Not Nicholas: The Trials has three episodes, starting with a recap for new listeners. The Audible Original, produced by BBC Studios, is available from today, 7 July on Audible and Apple Podcasts, with episodes also released weekly on other platforms.
