Mary Beard and Charlotte Higgins are bringing their hit podcast Instant Classics to London’s Guildhall for a one-off live show exploring the city’s ancient Roman roots.
Set within the Guildhall Art Gallery, right above the remains of a Roman amphitheatre, the event promises an evening steeped in history, humour, and insight from two of Britain’s leading classicists.
The live discussion will take audiences back nearly two thousand years, asking what life in Roman Londinium was really like; from cheering on gladiators to gossiping in the baths or worshipping mysterious gods.
Produced by Vespucci, the event is part of a collaboration with the City of London Corporation and the Culture Mile Business Improvement District. It celebrates how ancient civilisation continues to shape the modern capital, from public entertainment and governance to the very foundations of London Bridge.
Since launching in August, Instant Classics has topped charts by linking ancient myths and politics to today’s culture and conversation, “proving that history podcasting isn’t just a job for the boys”.
The live show will bring fans into the room as Mary and Charlotte debate, laugh, and reveal how much of modern Britain still owes to Rome.
Tickets are available pre-sale for members now and on general sale from Friday, 31 October.
